Pomaire seminar

CREA for Pomaire seminar, Pascale Gatzen

Pascale will talk about the process of collaboration with the Mayan women artisan group, Ajkem’a Loy’a in San Lucas Toliman in Guatemala. She will give examples and illustrate insights and challenges from two different projects. In 2009/2010, Pascale developed in collaboration with the women a woven tracksuit for W139, one of the main art spaces in Amsterdam. In the summer of 2009, she traveled with 5 students from the New School in New York to work with the women to help them further their design skills. Together they created a series of bags that will soon be available for sale in the US.

Trees at Night

Susan Cianciolo's Fall/Winter 2009 collection presentation was held last Sunday at the Tela Design Studio. This season Susan dazzled New York with an array of multifaceted, uniquely unusual, poetic and sustainable garments. Each piece is decidedly meant to be savored by the eyes and cherished by the wearer, as well as being very personal, with one-of-a-kind fabrics, drawings and hand-stitches interwoven into each piece. The ambiance at the Tela Design Studio was one of light-hearted airiness as well as being whimsical and dream-like. A pianist played tunes softly in the background while the models thoughtfully meandered in figure-eights as they contemplated their unfamiliar surroundings. Hung around the presentation room were drawings and artworks by the designer, which, together with the music and Susan Cianciolo-clad models, made for an exquisite juxtapostion of fashion and art conjoined into one space.

sarah aphrodite
live photo shoot

more pictures to come...

sarah created a one of a kind beautiful collection. i worked very closely with her, and saw how pure talent really evolves. her inspirations include cats ( jaguars, panthers), colors, oriental, sexiness. every aspect of her photoshoot and collection is hand done. i spent many afternoons helping hand patch dresses, blankets tanktops. sarahs collection is real and wearable. her clothing is beautiful and her pieces evoke sexiness and fun.sarah aphrodite's live photo shoot came together organically. the whole concept was fun, and involved many types of photographs; polaroids, film, digital, disposable. her models were real woman, and each became alive with every wardrobe change.the shoot take place on 10 ave and 28th street.
